Is learning to code as essential as reading and writing?
The U.S. is graduating fewer students literate in coding than are needed to fill the projected number of jobs in computer science, data show. Now, there is momentum behind a push to make coding the new literacy by not only teaching students how to code but also what the language of Java means -- a principle known as "computational thinking."
